Alexandria Library
386675 02: Dr. Mohsen Zahran, project director of the "Biblioteca Alexandrina" or Alexandria Library works at his desk December 2000 in Alexandria, Egypt. This $200 million project, scheduled to be completed mid-April 2001, will ultimately house 8 million volumes of books, accommodate 2500 people in the world's largest reading room, and admit 10,000 visitors daily. The library is built on what is thought to be the original Alexandria library, built by the Greeks under the Ptolemies dynasty. (Photo by Giulio Andreini/Liaison)
