Actors Commemorate The Battle Of Teutoburg Forest

BRAMSCHE, GERMANY - MAY 19: Actors dressed as Roman soldiers march through their camp during a commemoration of the Battle of Teutoburg Forest (in German called the Varusschlacht) at the Kalkriese Museum and Park on May 19, 2013 in Bramsche-Kalkriese, Germany. Several hundred actors dressed as Roman and Germanic soldiers took part in the public event that included a cavalry display, hand to hand combat between gladiators and demonstrations of Roman artillery. The Battle of Teutobug Forest in 9 A.D. was a monumental defeat for the Romans in Germania, in which three legions led by Publius Quinctilius Varus were betrayed by Arminius, who was secretly aligned with Germanic tribes and led the legions into a trap in which up to 20,000 Roman soldiers were killed at the hands of Germanic warriors.
