Grimms' Fairy Tales 200th Anniversary Nears
Caption: BAD KARLSHAFEN, GERMANY - NOVEMBER 19: A man walks his dog past town hall on November 19, 2012 in Bad Karlshafen, Germany. Bad Karlshafen was heavily settled by Huguenot refugees in the early 18th-century and lies along the 'Fairy Tale Road' (in German: Die Maerchenstrasse) that leads through the region between Frankfurt and Bremen where the Grimm brothers collected and adapted most of their fairy tales, which include such global classics as Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Cinderella and Hansel and Gretel, in the early 19th century. Among the most important sources for many of the tales was Huguenot descendant Dorothea Viehmann.The 200th anniversary of the first publication of the stories will take place this coming December 20th.
