Norway's Petter Northug (R) followed by Russian Maxim Vylegzhanin (L), crosses the finish line to win the men's 50km Mass Start Free event and his third gold medal of the Nordic Skiing World Championships on March 1, 2009 in Liberec. The 23-year-old Northug who already helped Norway win the double pursuit and team relay events, grabbed an individual title when he covered the 50km course in the winning time of 1 hour 59 mins and 38.1 seconds. In a tight finish, Russia's Maxim Vylegzhanin took silver by finishing just 0.7seconds behind Northug, while Germany's Tobias Angerer claimed bronze after finishing 2.0 seconds off the winner.
