Tu Ethnic Minority Group Wedding Ceremony Held In China

HUZHU COUNTY, CHINA - JANUARY 7: (CHINA OUT) A relative views the needlework of the bride at the her home during a local Tu ethnic minority group wedding ceremony on January 7, 2005 in Huzhu County, northwest China. The wedding, which lasts two days, displays the traditional Tu minority culture. On the first day of the ceremony, relatives and matchmakers representing the groom's family bring gifts to the bride's home, female relatives of the bride then shut the door and sing in the yard to test the sincerity of the groom. The Bride's family welcomes the guests at last and dances with them, celebrating the marriage. In the early morning of the next day, the families help the bride dress up and do her hair. The bride says farewell to her parents to thank their fostering, the parents then repeat the daughter's name loudly expressing their love to her. At dawn, the groom rides a horse to pick up the bride, and a short ceremony is held at the groom's home to announce their marriage. Relatives of both families then have a get-together and a grand feast. The newlyweds bade farewell to the relatives of the bride at dusk to mark the end of the ceremony.
