Walsh Sheep Farmer Foot and Mouth

Sheep farmer John Walsh (face covered) arriving at the Dublin courts to face charges of illegally importing sheep from England into Ireland. The Wicklow livestock trader was arrested by Irish detectives investigating the illegal importation of foot-and-mouth infected sheep. * Walsh, 50, originally from Co Wicklow but now living in Carlisle, England, was charged with illegally importing 279 sheep into the state on February 19 and 20. Walsh was also charged in Dublin District Court with filing false tax returns between 1990 and 1999 and a further charge of failing to file any tax return for the 1999/2000 financial year. The first case of foot and mouth on the island, on a farm in Meigh, south Armagh, was attributed to a shipment of several hundred sheep brought from a market in Carlisle, Cumbria.
