Turkish author Yasar Kemal dies at age 92

ISTANBUL, TURKEY : This file photo dated December 17, 2011 shows Turkish author Yasar Kemal who died at the age of 92 on February 28, 2015 due to a cardiac arrhythmia and difficulty breathing, is honored with Legion d'Honneur at the French Palace in Beyoglu district of Istanbul, Turkey. Yasar Kemal was taken to Istanbul University Medical Faculty Hospital on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 and had been on a respirator in the intensive care unit. The writer is a leading Turkish author whose works have been published in dozens of languages. He is the first Turkish author to be nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature and has won numerous international awards and honors including the Cino del Duca World Prize in 1982 and the Legion d'Honneur in 1984. The author's most prominently recognized novel, "Ince Memed" (Memed, My Hawk), has been published in 40 languages. Over 140 editions of his work have been published outside of Turkey.
