The Bayon temple is a richly decorated Khmer temple with distinctive serene and massive stone faces on the towers which jut out from the upper terrace and cluster around its central peak. Angkor Thom was the last capital of the Khmer empire. It is part of the Angkor Archaeological Park containing the magnificent remains of several capitals of the Khmer Empire of the 9th to the 15th centuries. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1992.
