Puthiyappa Fishing Harbour - stock photo
Puthiyappa is an important fishing village of Kozhikode district. It is situated to the North of Kozhikode city, 7 km away. There is a natural bay at Puthiyappa formed due to the protrusion of land into the sea. This protrusion offers natural protection to the mechanised fishing vessels from Northern side but it fails to provide protection from the waves approaching from South and West. However, when mud banks are formed near Puthiyappa during monsoon, fishery activities will be in full swing and provides natural shelter for the traditional craft to operate and land their catches from sea. To offer protection to the fishing vessels through out the year the idea of construction of a Fishery Harbour at Puthiyappa came into picture.
