South Pacific - stock photo

A small fishing hamlet on the south coast of remote Woodlark Island, Papua New Guinea. In this eastern part of Papua New Guinea there are Polynesian influences in the way of life of these Melanesian people. The hamlet of thatched huts is situated on the beach fronting an idyllic South Pacific lagoon. A well worn foot track leads to gardening areas in the interior. Rare ebony wood is harvested from forests in this area and used in traditional wood carvings such as motif laden walking sticks. A strong afternoon prevailing wind is blowing as seen in the bent palm tree fronds.
