U.S. Detains Two Japanese Anti Base Activists

OKINAWA, JAPAN - FEB. 22: U.S. military detained two Japanese anti base activists on Sunday February 22 who were campaigning against reclamation works aimed at building a new airstrip for the U.S. The two, including campaign leader Hiroji Yamashiro, were handed over to the local Japanese police. The police said they arrested them on suspicion of violating a special criminal law based on the Japan U.S. bilateral security treaty banning entering U.S. property without proper reasons. The other members of the campaign denied the charges and criticized the action as unjustifiable.
