(Original Caption) Apollo 16 Pacific Recovery Area: Apollo 16 command module pilot Thomas K. Mattingly II is hoisted aboard a helicopter during recovery operations in the Pacific Ocean 2, 278 kilometers south of Hawaii. He and astronauts Charles M. Duke Jr. and John W. Young splashed down at the completion of their 11-day lunar mission at 2:45pm EST.
