Boy Adjusting an Oscilloscope

(Original Caption) Boy With a Cyclotron. Oakland, California: Young Carl Svoboda makes a few adjustments on an oscilloscope while performing an experiment with a cyclotron (center) he built himself. The 15 year old Czech, who has been in the United States for six years, constructed the cyclotron for about $300, a far cry from the $9,500,000 betatron at the University of California, but an atom-smasher just the same. One of the winners of the Future Scientists of America Awards, Carl seems to have a definite future in the atomic science field, as he continues his studies and homemade projects.
