Bull in a China Shop

A "bull in a china shop" became a reality, when orchestra leader Fred Waring led a bull through a china shop in New York City, December 12, 1939. Waring lost a bet with Paul Douglas and had to lead the 1000-pound bovine thought a china shop, paying for the resulting destruction. Waring (centre) waits to take charge of the bull and lead it down an aisle lined with fragile china, as Paul 'Toreador' Douglas looks on from right. All went well until the bull swayed his hindquarters and smashed about $25 worth of china.
