Engineers Attempt To Stem Mud Flow

Indonesian engineers have dropped four clusters of chained concrete balls into a crater at a gas drilling field that has spewed mud to nearby villages, displacing approximately 11,000 people, in hopes of stemming the flow. Authorities plan drop about 1,500 of the 88 pound balls in to the crater. The company that is blamed for the flow of mud, PT Lapindo Brantas, has been ordered by the government to pay $420 million USD to the victims and the effort to stop the mud flow.
