Class 26C locomotive, Norway, 1954.
NORWAY - DECEMBER 18: A class 26C 4-8-0 locomotive number 437 with a freight train, by Patrick Ransome-Wallis. Most Norwegian steam locomotives were built in Oslo, but the Norwegian railways also used German and Swiss locomotives. They needed to be economical as coal was not mined in Norway and had to be imported. Because of Norway's mountainous terrain the locomotives also needed to be able to run on steep gradients and around sharp bends. (Photo by SSPL/Getty Images)
