Bobby Avila Running Between Two Bases
(Original Caption) Cleveland Indians' Bobby Avila looks like he's being run into the ground as New York Giants' Hank Thompson (left) and Davey Williams trap him between second and third in the seventh inning of the second game of the World Series at the Polo Grounds. Umpire John Stevens oversees the play. Williams nabbed Avila. The Tribe's second baseman got to first on a walk and advanced on Larry Doby's smash to Whitey Lockman. He was run down on Al Rosen's bounder to pitcher Johnny Antonelli, who threw to Thompson. The Giants won, 3-1, to take a two game lead in the Series competition.
