War in Democratic Republic of Congo
DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO - DECEMBER 2007: Congolese villagers and soldiers with the Rwandan-led Hutu militia known as the Democratic Liberation Forces of Rwanda, FDLR, stand over a mass grave in Katwiguru, North Kivu province, Democratic Republic of Congo on Dec. 9, 2007. Simon Habimana, with the Congolese Red Cross, helped unearth the remains. Though the Congolese government and the U.N. have initiated programs to throughout the country to demobilize and integrate rebel militia members in to the ranks of the Congolese army, there is still a large rebel presence throughout eastern Congo. Ongoing fighting between the government and the various militias has displaced hundreds of thousands of civilians across the North Kivu province. (Photo by Lynsey Addario/Getty Images Reportage)
