Dudley Ryder, lst Earl of Harrowby
Dudley Ryder (1762-1847) lst Earl of Harrowby, English Tory (Conservative) politician. As Dudley Ryder held the Parliament seat for Tiverton, Devon (1784-1803) until he inherited his barony, created Earl Harrowby (1809). Close friend of William Pitt, between 1789 and 1827 he held various offices of state. In 1827 he refused to serve as Prime Minister under George IV.
