The Philippines lies in the Coral Triangle the global epicenter of marine species diversity with 2.25 million fishers dependent on marine resources for their livelihood according to the Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources. In the the Coral Triangle's 5.7 million square kilometers fishing ground lies the six countries of Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysian, Papua New Guinea, the solomon Islands and Timor-Leste.
