Elaborate Truck Art Of Pakistan
CENTRAL HUNZA, PAKISTAN - JULY 11 : A fully decorated Pakistani truck makes it way along the Karakoram highway on July 11, 2007 in central Hunza valley, Pakistan. Pakistani truckers consider it a competition as to who has the most fabulous truck displaying an incredible collection of both color and art. Considered a symbol of Pakistan, the flamboyant painted trucks are the workhorse of the country. The vehicles have an average age of 30 years and every part is replaced to keep the vehicle running as long as possible. The average owner of a truck may spend over $3,000 on paint and metal designs for his vehicle which can be three times more than his monthly wages. The average truck owner may see his truck more than his wife so it is important to make it look pretty. Truck art started as a way to differentiate trucks in Pakistan from those in India after the countries split in 1947. (Photo by Paula Bronstein /Getty Images)
