George Ripley

circa 1870: George Ripley (1802-1880). American social reformer and writer. Ordained a Unitarian minister 1826, left ministry 1841, associated himself with the Transcendental movement, founded 'Dial' magazine 1840, organized and headed communal Brook Farm 1841-47, literary critic, 'New York Tribune' 1849-80, founder 1850, and literary editor to 1854 of 'Harper's New Monthly Magazine.'
