Immigrant Mother And Family Suffer With COVID-19 As Teacher Cares For Their Healthy Newborn

Weeks after giving birth to her son Neysel through an emergency C-section and put on a ventilator, Zully took part in a plasma antibodies trial, which has shown dramatic early results, according to hospital officials. Zully, still positive for coronavirus, has yet to hold her baby, who is healthy and temporarily staying with her son's teacher Luciana Lira. The K-5 Bilingual /ESL instructor at Hart Magnet Elementary School continues remote teaching her elementary school students, while also caring for the infant at home. She plans to continue as the baby's temporary custodian until the entire Guatemalan family, including Zully, the child's father Marvin and their son Junior, 7, also recover and test negative for the virus.
