UNITED KINGDOM - SEPTEMBER 26: Josiah Spode (1754-1827) was the inventor of bone china and ironstone, and the most successful china manufacturer of his time. Bone china was produced by adding bone ash and feldspar into the paste to increase the transparency of the ware. Ironstone was an opaque ware, introduced in 1805, but mostly exported to France. Spode favoured blue-printed ware, especially willow-pattern, and the china-ware already being produced, particularly jasper, Egyptian black and cream-ware. (Photo by SSPL/Getty Images)
