Maud Gonne
Maud Gonne (1865-1953), Mrs John MacBride, ardent Irish Nationalist and, from 1916, an active member of Sinn Fein. She was the dedicatee of many poems by William Butler Yeats who had wished to marry her. Mother of Sean MacBride, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Ireland (1948-1951).
