New laboratory for Freiberg researchers
PRODUCTION - 02 May 2024, Saxony, Freiberg: Geochemist Marion Tikhomirova prepares samples for an experiment in a new clean room laboratory at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. The scientist and her team at the Bergakademie are researching the geological age of rocks. This allows them to get to the bottom of the history of local landscapes such as the Ore Mountains and the Thuringian Forest. This ultra-modern clean room is linked to the research. The new cleanroom laboratory, which is completely metal-free, was built at the Bergakademie at a cost of around two million euros. According to the university, there are only around a dozen of these worldwide for high-precision uranium-lead dating, as practiced here. And the one in Freiberg is considered the most modern of its kind in Germany. Photo: Hendrik Schmidt/dpa (Photo by Hendrik Schmidt/picture alliance via Getty Images)
