Guns for Hire: Anti-Poaching Guards
LEWA DOWNS, KENYA - JUNE 12: Members of an anti-poaching unit patrol a neighboring sanctuary wildlife park in Lewa Downs, Kenya on June 12, 2005. Based at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Northern Kenya, the privately funded anti-poaching unit has received permission from the Kenyan government to shoot to kill. Most of the members of the anti-poaching unit are from the famed Maasai warrior tribe and have received military training. The anti-poaching unit consists of three four man groups that patrol the park and its surrounding areas in search of poachers and their traps. If they see a poacher carrying a weapon anywhere within the park or the vast areas surrounding the park they shoot to kill. Poaching has dropped significantly since they started their operations.
