Indonesia Oil And Gas Disaster Recovery
SIDOARJO, INDONESIA - OCTOBER 6: Mud from an oil and gas exploration well debacle swallows a village October 6, 2006 in Sidoarjo, East Java, Indonesia. Authorities have struggled since last May 2006 in a desperate attempt to stop the mud spreading. Indonesia plans on pumping more than 125,000 cubic meters of mud from the site into a nearby river. The disaster has almost swallowed up eight villages, about 20 factories, and displaced more than 13,000 people. The man-made disaster from local company, PT Lapindo Brantas, used faulty practices when drilling thousands of feet to tap natural gas. (Photo by Dimas Ardian / Getty Images)
