National Guard Spraying Tear Gas on Berkeley Students
A National Guard helicopter sprays tear gas onto both dissidents and students alike after they obeyed an order to evacuate the Student Union Building and were caught outside on Sproul Hall Plaza. The gassing occured nearly an hour after 1,500 demonstrators ended an illegal rally at another section of the campus. Behind the helicopter is the campus campanile, Sather Tower.
