Reggie Thibodeau, left, 27, airbrushes dolphins on his mother's 55–foot yacht "Endless Honeymoon" with the theme "Christmas by the Beach" Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003 at dusk in the Newport Dunes Marina in Newport Beach. Karen Thibodeau spent $4,000 to $5,000 to decorate their 55–foot yacht for Newport Beach's annual Christmas Boat Parade, which starts Wednesday night. They're only using about 15,000 lights, not the 25,000 they used one year. They only started installing everything December 1, even though their design process began back in October. There's a lot of people out there who spend a whole lot of money, Thibodeau said. We try to keep things in perspective. This is the madness of the nation's oldest and longest–running boat parade, which begins Wednesday and runs through Saturday. It's a decadent display of creativity and shimmering lights that has become a 95–year tradition. (Photo by Allen J. Schaben/Los Angeles Times via Getty Images)
