INDIA - DECEMBER 10: �Second attack of Sir Colin Campbell in March 1858, The Begum Kotie�. A photograph of The Begum Kotee, Lucknow, India, taken by Felice Beato. During the Indian Mutiny or Great Sepoy Rebellion (1857-1858), Lucknow was under a prolonged siege. Colin Campbell, 1st Baron Clyde (1792-1863) was commander-in-chief of the British forces and relieved the siege. Damage to the building can be seen here. Beato, a Venetian by birth, initially worked as a photographer in England. Around 1854 he began working with his brother-in-law James Robertson, based in Constantinople (Istanbul). Robertson and Beato photographed the Crimean War in 1855 and the Indian Mutiny. Beato left the partnership with Robertson in 1860 to photograph the Opium War in China. (Photo by SSPL/Getty Images)
