St Joan of Arc (1412 - 1431), known as the Maid of Orleans (centre) arrives at Chinon Castle to meet the dauphin during the Hundred Years' War,6th March 1429. Her inner voices moved her to ask the Dauphin to let her fight the English in 1428. She drove the English from Orleans in 1429, but was captured and executed for practicing witchcraft, proclaimed innocent in 1456 and canonized in 1920.
