Dickinson took out a patent for a means of making paper in a continuous sheet, dramatically speeding up the paper manufacturing process. The device used was called the Cylinder Mould machine. He also invented a special non-smouldering paper for cannon cartridges which was said to have helped in Wellington�s victory over Napoleon.
