BANGALORE, INDIA: The Indian national flag flies in front of the Indian national emblem, lying atop the Vidhana Soudha State assembly in Bangalore, 14 August 2004 on the eve of India's 57th anniversary of Independence. The emblem, made of four lions, standing back to back, was adopted 26 January 1950 as India's national emblem following the end of British rule. India has stepped up security across the country ahead of Sunday's Independence day celebrations, especially in flashpoint areas of Indian Kashmir as well as in the capital New Delhi, officials said.
