BANAUE, PHILIPPINES: This photo taken 02 October 2003 shows a bird's eye view of the Banaue rice terraces. The rice terraces were carved by Ifugao tribesmen by hand from treacherous mountains some 2,000 years ago in northern Ifugao province. The naturally irrigated rice paddies are testament of engineering wonders being the earliest example of proper watershed management. The ancient rice terraces, the Philippines greatest cultural treasure, are now protected under the UNESCO World Heritage List.
