Vernon Gomez and Jerome Dean Shaking Hands
(Original Caption) Vernon (lefty) Gomez, (left), of the New York Yankees, and Jerome (Dizzy) Dean, of the St. Louis Cardinals, starting pitchers for the American and National League Aggregations, respectively, are shown before the start of the fifth Annual All-Star game at Washington D.C., July 7th. Dean turned three innings until Lou Gehrig clouted one over the fence for a homer. Gomez covered himself with glory by allowing but one hit and no runs for the three innings he pitched. The American League won 8-3.
