Wagashi are traditional Japanese sweets and confectionery...
TOKYO, JAPAN - 2017/04/05: Wagashi are traditional Japanese sweets and confectionery that are often served with tea. Wagashi sweets are usually made of mochi, azuki bean paste and fruits and typically made from natural ingredients. The names used for each type of wagashi follow certain formulas: text from ancient literature; or some natural event or phenomenon. Thus the names are written with archaic Japanese characters or kanji that most people can't read giving them an esoteric sensibility. (Photo by John S Lander/LightRocket via Getty Images)
