Farmer Inspecting Year-Old Alligator
(Original Caption) A year-old American alligator seems to protest during inspection by alligator farmer Francine Froehlich. It really shouldn't worry now because it has four more years to grow to a harvestable six-foot length. Francine, 35, and her husband, Ed, 45, are raising 5,000 alligators on their 40-acre farm on the edge of the Everglades. With restaurants paying up to $6 a pound for meat and high quality skins selling at $120 each, the couple hopes it will be good business.
