Dawn light over K2 (8,611 m / 28,251 ft) and Angel Peak (6,858 m / 22,500 ft), part of the Karakoram range, as seen at Concordia, on K2 Base Camp trekking route, located in Central Karakoram National Park (CKNP), Gilgit-Baltistan region, northern Pakistan. K2, the second highest mountain in the world, is known as the Savage Mountain due to the extreme difficulty of ascent. It has the second-highest fatality rate among the eight thousanders. With around 300 successful summits and 80 fatalities, about one person dies on the mountain for every four who summit.
