Dondorf Shakespeare 1895 ace of spades antique playing card - stock photo

This is the special ace of spades playing card from the original 'Shakespeare' 1895 deck, produced by Bernhard Dondorf in Germany for the London company C. W. Faulkner & Co.. Some years later the deck was published again by Dondorf, with a plain Ace of Spades, as 'No 192'. C. W. Faulkner and Co. operated from Golden Lane in London, EC1. From 1882 they worked as lithographers, and also printed in gravure. Their best-quality playing cards were those printed in Germany, some by Dondorf, prior to the First World War.
