Bridgetown, Barbados - November 21, 2011: the bronze statue dedicated to cricketer Sir Garfield Sobers (born 28 July 1936), a national hero and recognized as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Century. He represented the West Indies from 1953 until his retirement in 1974. The statue of 1.5 tonne, commissioned by Government, is an artwork of the Caribbean sculptors Karl Broodhagen and Virgil Broodhagen. It was inaugurated on Sunday 28th April 2002 and stands at the entrance of the Kensington Oval, the stadium to the west of Bridgetown.
