Ijen Volcano, Indonesia - May 8, 2013: A miner is carrying heavy baskets full of elemental sulfur. They miners are mining the sulfur at the green crater lake inside the caldera of the Ijen volcano in East Java, Indonesia. At the shore of the acid lake there is an active vent which is the source of the sulfur. At this place local people do sulfur mining - the miners break out the sulfur in large pieces and carry it in baskets up to the crater rim and afterwards down to the village at the slopes of the vulcano. These workers are carrying baskets with loads between 70 and 100 kilograms, most of them are doing this twice a day.
