It has this name since 1901 when King Carlos and Queen Amalia discovered this place. They were surprised by its beauty, and in honor of them adopted this name. The viewpoint is less than 20 kilometers from the city of Ponta Delgada, at the western end of the island. From this place you can appreciate the Laguna Verde and Laguna Azul. On a sunny day the color difference of the water can be seen because the first one is smaller, more enclosed and surrounded by vegetation and the second one is bigger and much more open. The color of the water contrasts with the color of the valley of an intense green that remind you how magnificent the nature of our planet is.
