Pervious Asphalt Pavement Background - stock photo

This is a close-up section of recently installed pervious asphalt which is a relatively new construction material. In this application the asphalt is used for a bike path. Very similar to road surfaces, the primary difference is the larger aggregate, and lack of sand, which creates interconnected voids allowing water to flow through the surface rather than off. Pervious pavement is a green building method which reduces storm water runoff and is considered a Best Management Practice (BMP) by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
