Kennebec Pass, at about 11,000 feet elevation, offers some nice hiking on the Colorado Trail. From Durango, take Hwy. 550/160 11 miles west to Hesperus, turn right on La Plata Canyon Road and drive about 14.2 mile to the top of Kennebec. A 4WD vehicle helps with this 1 and 1/2 hour drive. These photos were taken on the CT, walking north on Indian Trail Ridge, above Taylor Lake.
