WGN- Chicago police opened a hate crime investigation after a cast member of the television show "Empire," Jussie Smollett, alleged he was attacked by men who shouted racial and homophobic slurs at him and physically attacked him on January 29, 2019. Police released without charges two Nigerian brothers, Abimbola “Abel” Osundairo and Olabinjo Osundairo, on February 15, 2019, who were arrested on suspicion of assaulting Smollett. Smollett was charged on February 20, 2019, with felony disorderly conduct for filing a false report.
