Event Location(s): Today New York Studio | Description: Kotb and Gifford report from the Today New York Studio. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Hello, everybody. It's the first Fun-Day Monday-- HODA KOTB: Yes. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: --that Hoda's fifty, it's August 11. HODA KOTB: Oh. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: That was the week we thought would never ever end. HODA KOTB: Ever. It ended. It's over, and not to be discussed again. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: And how did you feel? HODA KOTB: Fifty is feeling pretty good. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Fit and fabulous at fifty. HODA KOTB: It is. We had-- we celebrated at the beach, at Rehoboth Beach this weekend. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yes. It's almost eleven by the way if anyone cares. Yes. HODA KOTB: Yes. We went. It was me, my mom, my sister, my brother, the kids-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: And boots. HODA KOTB: --and boots. And we all had a bang-up time. Rehoboth is insane. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: It's-- it's-- yeah, high season there, baby. HODA KOTB: Right. So we ended up-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: You know what I mean. HODA KOTB: --we ended up-- this is all of us sitting at-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Are you a Go Fish? HODA KOTB: We’re Go Fish. That's Allison and her son, Elias (ph) and our whole family. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: And the smiley face is boots-- HODA KOTB: This is smiley. And then we also-- we-- we took a picture. By the way, Rehoboth can be so beautiful. This was like one of those times in life where it was really pretty. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yeah. Yeah. HODA KOTB: And I’ve got to show you-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: It wasn't humid. It's gorgeous. HODA KOTB: I want to show you a picture of my brother. I hope we have this one next. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: He’s very handsome. HODA KOTB: He’s holding my-- look at him. I never show him enough on the air. I'm sorry. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: That was Kate going ow. HODA KOTB: Ow. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Or was that Meredith? HODA KOTB: Evelyn (ph). KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Evelyn. HODA KOTB: Of course she was. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Wow. You think you know a person. HODA KOTB: Anyway. How was your weekend? KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: It was good. I was kayaking with Bambino and Cody and Cass and stuff. HODA KOTB: You did? KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: And Christie. Yeah. We had a good-- it was a nice weekend. It was-- HODA KOTB: It was beautiful. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: We had a signing of my stuff on Saturday. But after that was out of the way, it was-- it was. Friday morning I went to, and I'll just combine my Favorite Thing. HODA KOTB: Yeah. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Friday morning after you-- the-- the thing with you, Hoda, your last day-- HODA KOTB: Yeah. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: We-- I went to an opening of a-- of a Kringle Candle store. I don't usually do things like that, but for this family I'd pretty much do-- HODA KOTB: Yeah. Anything. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: --anything. This is the Kittredge family. You can see Mike there is in his wheelchair. Mike Kittredge founded Yankee Candle years ago, sold it years later, but then went back into the candle business in a big way with his son, Mick, who is there. And those are his sisters, Kylie and Casey. And so they were cutting the ribbon on their very first store. HODA KOTB: It's sweet. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: And I brought you my favorite new fragrance. This is for you. HODA KOTB: What is it? KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: This is for your birthday from them. Smell that. Coconut wood. HODA KOTB: Oh. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yeah. They're very, very affordable, you all. HODA KOTB: Mm, smells like the beach. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: This is in Stanford, Connecticut. HODA KOTB: It smells like the beach. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: It smells like the beach. So that’s for you. So I want to wish them all a great success with that. HODA KOTB: All right. So we just-- we just saw Savannah-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yes. HODA KOTB: --in the makeup room. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yeah, she looks so cute. HODA KOTB: And she is-- today is her final day-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Mm-Hm. HODA KOTB: --before she has her adorable baby. So we gave her a little birthday or a baby love. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: It's all I do is push things in now. HODA KOTB: I know. So-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yeah. HODA KOTB: --we-- we-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Nobody is surprised when I come in pushing something. HODA KOTB: Right. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: But-- HODA KOTB: We were-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: --you were the surprise this time-- HODA KOTB: I love how we were the surprise guests. It's like we were just in the makeup room. And it was full of all kinds of goodies. A couple of things she loved more than the rest, if you know what I’m saying. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: She's so ready to go. HODA KOTB: She is. Yeah. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: She is so ready to go. HODA KOTB: So-- so what do you think about the boy or the girl? What do you think she's having? KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: I-- usually I can tell, but I think it's a girl-- HODA KOTB: You did? KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: --because she's gained a lot. You know, it's-- HODA KOTB: In the middle. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Boy is usually like boom, right there. HODA KOTB: Yeah. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: She's gained everywhere. You know what I mean? A little bit. HODA KOTB: Yeah. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: So-- so I think-- I’d say it's a girl. HODA KOTB: You think it's a girl? KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Mm-Hm. Mm-Hm. HODA KOTB: Okay then I am going to say it's a boy, just like-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Okay. HODA KOTB: Okay. So my favorite thing is also something we have on our show since we're doing Favorite Things. Maddie and Tae. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: They're adorable. HODA KOTB: They just sang on the Nine, Girl In A Country Song. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yes. HODA KOTB: It is so-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Doesn't she look like Kelly Ripa, the-- the-- the-- the first one? She looks like a kind of-- HODA KOTB: Little, yeah. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: --a-- a cross between Cassidy, my daughter, and Kelly. HODA KOTB: They're both adorable. But here’s what’s fun. I-- you know, a few weeks ago I played them as an iHoda because I like them. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Right. HODA KOTB: Then what happens today. Do you know what happens today? KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Nobody called them like you, Hod. HODA KOTB: USA Today, front cover-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yep. HODA KOTB: All the young country people. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yep. Country Lassos Fresh Voices. HODA KOTB: And who is here? KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Maddie and Tae. HODA KOTB: Maddie and Tae. So they're going to come, speak with us and sing a little bit of acoustic stuff with us and hang out with us a little bit. And they are such sweet girls. We’re just so happy they’ll be here. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Oh, they just seem like they’re adorable. And very fine already craftsmen-- HODA KOTB: Yeah. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: --craftswomen-- HODA KOTB: Yeah. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: --in-- in writing a song. HODA KOTB: Sure. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Very, very clever. HODA KOTB: Okay. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: All right. Cody was challenged over the weekend by his friend-- I think it was Kevin-- HODA KOTB: Yeah. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: --that-- that-- yes. And so I-- HODA KOTB: Oh, this was-- wait. Wait. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: This is-- HODA KOTB: This is the-- the ice bucket challenge. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: This is the ice bucket challenge for ALS. HODA KOTB: ALS. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Right. HODA KOTB: So this is the thing where if they challenge you, they dump a bucket of ice on your head, or else you're supposed to give some dough to ALS. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: You have to donate a hundred dollars to ALS-- HODA KOTB: Yes. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: --ALS Research. HODA KOTB: So if someone calls you out, you have to have a bucket-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Within twenty-four hours. HODA KOTB: Okay. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: So here was Cody yesterday. HODA KOTB: Okay. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: And challenge you and Greg Gutfeld to the ice bucket challenge. HODA KOTB: You're not doing this on my new blow out.-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: No. Hoda, you’ve got a choice. It's the way I see it. You get the ice bucket over the head or you get a hundred bucks to ALS Charity. We wasted a good bucket of ice, didn't we? HODA KOTB: Wait a second. Nobody-- wait. Everybody does the challenge. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: That's right. HODA KOTB: I have twenty-four hours? KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: You’ve twenty-four hours. HODA KOTB: That means I have the whole course of the show. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yes. HODA KOTB: Wait. Why am I (unintelligible) for the show. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: And you can get a fresh blow-out in the morning. What are you doing later? HODA KOTB: I think we should wait-- what’s at the end of the show? KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Let's do it at the end of the show. Shall we, Jerry? Can we make that happen? Good. You can-- HODA KOTB: Oh, wait-- wait until you see who I'm going to challenge. Okay. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Okay. All righty. Remember the three young girls you all who were just took the most precious-- they were all battling cancer and they-- they didn't know one another. And-- and then they met. And they-- they-- they took a beautiful shot. HODA KOTB: Right. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Do we have the old picture? HODA KOTB: Yeah. And so-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yeah. HODA KOTB: --recently-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Look at that. HODA KOTB: --we told you the good news that Rheann, who is six; Ainsley, who is four, and Rylie, who is three are all in remission. So-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Thank God. HODA KOTB: --the photographer, Lora Scantling-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Lora Scantling. HODA KOTB: --recreated that original photo. So let's take a look at them now. HODA KOTB: Oh. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Oh, my gosh. Just having it in color is such a -- HODA KOTB: That is beautiful. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Oh, my gosh. HODA KOTB: It was beautiful. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: God bless those girls. You know what? HODA KOTB: Oh, look at that picture. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: They're going to be life-long friends. HODA KOTB: You know they are. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: You just know they are. HODA KOTB: They certainly are. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: They are. HODA KOTB: All right. So good news if you liked Culottes. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: I loved Culottes. HODA KOTB: They're back in fashion. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: When was that? What year was that you guys? HODA KOTB: It was the-- it-- well, I don’t remember but they were like-- they were kind of like a skort almost. They're kind of like wide-legged crop pants that were short. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Or they were short too. HODA KOTB: Yeah. They were short. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yeah. Yeah. They have it just long-- HODA KOTB: Yeah. I thought Culottes were like shorts. I thought-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: They could be. They were any length. It was just --yeah, yeah. But they were-- they were wide. It was like a skirt -- like a skort. HODA KOTB: I thought it was like a skort. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yeah. HODA KOTB: Okay. Anyway, I didn't realize they were the long ones. Okay. Anyway, the Wall Street Journal just did a whole thing saying they're back on the runways. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yes. HODA KOTB: They're back. Why are they back do you think? KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Comfort, comfort. HODA KOTB: They're airy. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Just hold on to things you love, and they'll come back. HODA KOTB: Yeah. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yeah. HODA KOTB: I think you're absolutely right. Anyway, they say you can go to day-- from day to night. Okay. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Okay. This is nice to see people who have-- HODA KOTB: This is sweet. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: --consciously uncoupled getting along. HODA KOTB: Yes. Okay. So Billy Joel had one of his terrific concerts. Okay. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: At the-- at Madison Square Garden, I believe. HODA KOTB: Yeah. He was-- you guys remember, he was married to Christie Brinkley and they divorced back in the 1990s. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Mm-Hm. HODA KOTB: And there was a song that he never played again, apparently, after their split, which was Uptown Girl. He didn't play it in his concerts. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Which he wrote about her many years ago. HODA KOTB: Well, guess who was in the audience at Billy's concert. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Mm-Hm. HODA KOTB: Christie. And guess what song he sang. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Let's hear it. HODA KOTB: Uptown Girl. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Oh, we don't get to hear it. Yeah, we do a little. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Oh. HODA KOTB: And she was on the Jumbotron. And she-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Oh, that-- that's nice. They have a daughter Alexa together, and that's just very nice. HODA KOTB: And she actually shared that that photo on Instagram, and she captioned he still got it. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: She's sixty. Just-- just to give you something to look forward to. HODA KOTB: Okay. I can't believe she's sixty. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yeah. That's what sixty looks like now, baby. HODA KOTB: That's amazing. Okay. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Uh-Huh. HODA KOTB: Okay. So this is one of those sweet pieces of video we love to show you. There's a little boy, and it's a story of a little boy and a butterfly. A butterfly landed on a little boy's nose. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: It's all you need, right? HODA KOTB: Take a look. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: It's all you need. HODA KOTB: Yeah. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: That was a happy kid. HODA KOTB: How cute was that? KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: How cute is that, right? HODA KOTB: Oh, my God. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Okay. Hoda, there's yet another study. HODA KOTB: Yes. This one says-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yeah. HODA KOTB: --it's from Germany -- that nice guys don't finish last. They finish-- they finish first. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: I don't think we needed a study for that, but I mean, nice people ultimately live more full-filling lives-- HODA KOTB: Yes. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: -- more successful lives-- HODA KOTB: Yes. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: --in the things that matter, right? HODA KOTB: Yes. In the things that matter. I think they did-- they did one of these-- they did one of those studies and they talked about people who were givers and takers. And they found-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: But who says the truth about it. I'm a taker. I'm a completely narcissistic jerk. Put that down and spell my name right. Who says that? HODA KOTB: You know what, you're right. You're right. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yeah. HODA KOTB: But I do think a lot of nice guys do feel like they see those guys who are pushy, sharp elbows, et cetera, et cetera, making it. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yeah. HODA KOTB: And they think, God, I'm so nice. I sit here. The girls go for the bad boys. The bosses pick the guys who are, you know, all pumped up and they get discouraged. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: They may win in the-- in the short run, but not the long run, baby. Hang in there. HODA KOTB: We're all about the long run. Okay. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Okay. HODA KOTB: What else? KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: I don’t know. Are we-- are we able to go to -- there's a big announcement we're going to make. HODA KOTB: About One Direction. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yes. HODA KOTB: All right. So here's the big news. Over the weekend, the band announced that you can now buy tickets to see their upcoming film One Direction: Where We Are. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: One Direction: Where We Are. HODA KOTB: --the Concert Film. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: The Concert Film. Yeah. HODA KOTB: Anyway, it's going to be in theaters for one weekend only, October 11th and 12th. It's one of those events. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Okay. HODA KOTB: So there you have it. We just announced it, and the girls are going to go crazy. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Oh, yes. Now are we going to not watch the-- WOMAN: Save that for tomorrow. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Saving something for you for tomorrow. Okay. HODA KOTB: All right. All right. Don’t-- KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: All right. Don't miss out on all the juicy gossip, Hoda. HODA KOTB: Yeah. In Hollywood that you may have been busy with your other stuff over the weekend, we're going to fill you in. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Celebrating Hodie's birthday. And they're (unintelligible) to the good all boys of country music with their smash hit. HODA KOTB: Yes. Maddie & Tae, they're the darlings of Nashville. We're going to talk to them right after this. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Okay. They're so darn cute. STILLS: Kotb and others.
