Prince Charles interview; Prince Charles (Prince of Wales) interview SOT - [re focus on oceans] - it's very odd isn't it, because we concentrate on the land / the commissioner was saying that only 30% of the planet is earth / it's out of sight and out of mind, what we do on land has a consequence for the seas / all the rubbish and pollution we spew out all end up in the oceans / people don't realise how many billions - [re survival depends on oceans] it does, the oceans absorb as much carbon as they possibly can / the CO2 in the atmosphere is too great for the oceans to cope with / that's effecting so many species / then you have the warming of the oceans / the oxygen we breathe is also generated by the oceans / and we depend on it for food - [re people who aren't worried] one of the greatest difficulties now is the sheer extent of plastic waste / it's the way we've developed everything for convenience / without thinking about the long term consequences of those materials / it's the throwaway aspect, what we need is the development of a circular economy / instead of the idea that we operate separately from nature in a linear model - [re royal palaces] I have tried very hard, I was the first one to start a skip at Buckingham Palace / we need to look at what they've been doing in Sweden and Germany / a deposit scheme on plastic bottles, that's worked brilliantly / Malta is just about to do it, the prime minister told me they would start in 2019 - [re fewer jobs in fishing] I remember going to Wick at the top of Scotland and going to the heritage centre / there was a huge photo of Wick harbour in 1900 / they told me that one boat now can catch what 1000 did back then / the aim of all this effort is to draw in the long term investment that would enable fisheries to become more sustainable without losing their jobs / you invest in a return a few years down the line, you value and protect the ecosystem / that's why its so important to have these marine protected a...
