Under consideration in California today, a proposed ban on smoking on beaches. EXT DAY CALIFORNIA AND THE PACIFIC OCEAN MS: Surfer surfs near pier. MS: People play volleyball on the beach. MS: Man lights cigarette on the beach near the ocean. INT CALIFORNIA MS: In interview California Assemblyman Paul Koretz says "It's an environmental and health hazard any place along the coast." EXT DAY CALIFORNIA 2 MS: People (one faces unseen) sit in chairs on the beach as one puts his cigarette out in the sand. EXT DAY CALIFORNIA AND THE PACIFIC OCEAN MS: Man smokes on beach near the ocean. EXT DAY CALIFORNIA 2 MS: Men sit on bench as one smokes and the other in interview says "It's just adding to the rest of the bad toxins that are in the air." MS: In interview the smoker says "You're--you're outdoors, so you should be able to do whatever you want, you know?" EXT DAY CALIFORNIA AND THE PACIFIC OCEAN MS: NBC's James Hattori reports on-camera on the beach with the ocean in the background. MS: In interview on the beach with the ocean in the background, Los Angeles City Council's Jack Weiss says (part VO) "The biggest problem is litter. You know, my kids and I went to a Heal the Bay beach clean-up a few months ago, and we spent hours on our hands and knees cleaning up other people's cigarette butts." EXT DAY CALIFORNIA MS: Point of view shot of walking on the sand past cigarette butts in the sand.
