Senators Murray, Cornyn, Schumer floor exchange after health care draft released

Texas Senator John Cornyn says during a lively debate at a draft containing health care reform issued by Senate Republicans is 142 pages long, compared to the 2700 pages long Obamacare bill. New York Senator Chuck Schumer says the bill was posted a half hour before the Senate opened, asking a page to give him a copy of which they had read. Cornyn says all Senators have a copy and there will be fulsome debate, suggesting they read it before they start criticizing it. Schumer asks for more than two minutes of debate on amendments during the reconciliation process, Cornyn responding that reconciliation rules. The Senate is undergoing reconciliation as a result of their refusal to participate in the process, objecting to a unanimous consent request of Cornyn. Senator Patty Murray says she heard the objection, but what they are hearing is that the discussion draft is not the bill, they will not see the real bill apparently until the week of floor debate, having been cut out of a process whereby 13 men in a private room. Wrote the bill that will affect millions of Americans. Cornyn asks Murray if she is aware that under reconciliation, an unlimited number of amendments could be offered by either side, very responding that she is well aware, but there will be 10 hours of debate on overly more than a discussion draft, not the process undergone in producing the Affordable Care Act.
